We also believe that freelancing will continue to become the norm in the Creative and Cultural Industries. Therefore, we must make freelancing more accessible and manageable to creatives.

The concept of the ‘struggling artist’ is not completely untrue. Becoming a professional artist or creative is only meant for the talented and hard-working few. But since the work field has scattered into a freelance battlefield, being talented or hard-working does not equal a sustainable lasting career anymore. Creative professionals are obliged to master the art of freelancing and become entrepreneurs of their own. 

What is the Art of Freelancing?

In our view, the art of freelancing means running a full-fledged one-person company while navigating an endless ocean filled with scarce opportunities. Freelancers need the right tools and skills in their arsenal to keep their companies afloat by spotting those opportunities and turning them into profits. In easier words, freelancers need to manage their businesses, find work, and land clients to be able to make a living.

This sounds easier than it is in reality, especially for newly graduated creatives. Professional artists and creatives prefer to spend their valuable time improving & maintaining their artistic/creative skills and working in the field rather than networking, bookkeeping, marketing, and applying to projects. They are time-consuming tasks but vital to the success of a freelance creative.

Freelancing is here to stay, with approximately 50%-70% of people working in the performing arts and 40% in the Creative Industries being freelancers. But freelance artists and creatives don’t always stay freelance or freelance full-time. Therefore, we must create a better-connected system in which professionals can work hybrid. 

Empowering creativity with technology.

Our mission is to empower creative professionals within the Creative & Cultural Industries. We do this by developing automated tools and better-streamlined workflows to help creatives manage their careers. Efficiency is key. 

On the other side, to truly empower creativity we must also address the technologies behind companies, organizations, and agencies hiring creative professionals. These technologies are outdated solutions that are no longer proven efficient. We believe we need a unified solution to enable connection, collaboration, and creation. 

Our technological solutions are meant to be complementary to the creative core of the sector, but at the same time, they will provide the opportunity to explore different revenue models that contribute to the sustainability of artistic careers.

Creating a healthy market for creatives.

Important to us are the different initiatives proposed and set up on political, social, and economical levels that improve the labor market and its conditions within the Creative & Cultural Industries.

We value fair practices such as fair pay and fair working conditions. At lanced we will contribute to the enforcement of these practices and will battle against the exploitation of artists and creators.
